ode to bakerella

ODE TO BAKERELLA

Bakerella, Bakerella oh what do I do,

I don't get the feeling I will ever bake like you.

Yesterday I tried your red velvet cake ball recipe,

but to my luck, I messed up, my kitchen so messy.

It started out all good and fine,

the cake it smelled so yummy,

my husband was glad he would have red velvet in his tummy.

Next came mixing cake and frosting,

it seemed so nice and easy,

so I put them on a tray so they'd get all nice and freezy.

Rolling the balls in chocolate, to me,

oh it looked so simple,

to sample red velvet yumminess,

I smiled and showed a dimple.

But it turned out tres disasterous,

the chocolate was so thick,

I could not even roll red velvet balls in chocolate,

not even on a stick.

So I gave up and dipped them by hand,

they looked so gross and goopy,

the melts had not melted like they should,

instead of nice and soupy.

I will admit I was excited to try this recipe,

don't know why but it did not turn out quite so good for me.

Bakerella and all her friends,

this is a plea you see,

please tell me how I can get

the right chocolate consistency!

***As you can see, waiting an hour in the lobby for class lends itself to extreme creativity!

hahahahahha. i love this post! i tried cake balls last week and i had problems with my dipping chocolate too. so i threw those balls out with the dipping chocolate and did the rest with white almond bark. that melted soooo much better! good luck!

Hahaha this is hilarious! Don't you hate it when things don't turn out perfectly as expected?

I started making cake balls last fall and using melts worked if you only do a little bit at a time. getting too hot makes it goopey. Over Christmas I tried again and used white almond bark which I dyed with powder food coloring and it was MUCH MUCH easier. I only use almond bark now! Such a cute poem

I had the exact same problem. They looked so terrible BUT they were still yummy! I think the other ladies are right. The bark is probably better but I have no idea where to get it. Any ideas?

This is so funny! Hope your chocolate starts doing what you want it too! The picture looks delish!

LOVE this post!! I had such a hard time making cake balls the first two times and then I seemed to find the right consistency. I only use the plain Wilton melts from Michaels and I pop them in a bowl and put them in the microwave (the double broiler thing did not work for me) and then if it's still a little too thick I add a bit of shortening or vegetable oil and stir it up! Check out my blog - I think 2 posts ago for REALLY cute pink and brown ones I made! :)

Email me at LisLoves@yahoo.com if you have any questions. Sorry for the long comment I just totally know where you are coming from! :)

That was TOO funny! Don't worry - my first trial for cake balls weren't that pretty either.

BUT the NEXT trial that I did were almost store-worthy! Keep trying!

hey fellow newlywed! thanks for stopping by my blog, yours is très cute :) i don't know if this recipe will help your dilemma, as it's a recipe for petit fours, but really aren't petit fours just a fancy name for mini cakes? happy baking!

I have tried to make these in the past as well and it turned into a TOTAL disaster. I'm not sure what went wrong. I haven't ventured to try making them again (yet!)

I tried it too and mine looked nothing like her's. One day we will succeed!

I spent all afternoon making gazillions of Bakerella's red velvet cake balls! Hosting a baby shower tomorrow and we put them in the cutest little bags....I will post pictures tomorrow night after the shower. The key to getting the bark right is putting your microwave on defrost and stirring for 30 sec every minute---even if they don't need stirred! I love these cake balls, so bad for my diet!
